Unfortunately as being pet owners who love our family pets, one of the circumstances we have to deal with is the loss of our beautiful and very loved pet. No matter how much the thought of that happening is very distressful, it is a part of life that happens to all pet owners.

When the death of our pet occurs, I do not think we realize how hard it can hit us. Especially, if we have had an older pet that may have become ill. You think that you are prepared for their passing, so it may not be so difficult when it finally happens.

But with any loved one that passes away, you are never totally prepared for it, even if you were expecting it sooner then later to happen.

I was the proud owner of a wonderful orange male cat, who was diagnosed with diabetes. His name was Benjamin. Our Benjamin required 2 shots aday for 8 years. So for those years we only took vacations where we could rent pet friendly homes and stay for awhile. We did not go away for weekends or short trips, because we had to give Benjamin his shots.

Now naturally he could of stayed at our vets, or we could of showed someone else how to administer his shots, but being crazy pet lovers we wanted him to be with us.

When Benjamin passed away, believe it or not, we misseed our daily routine of giving him his shots and being their for him. Which goes to show you no matter how much work our pets may have been, we still miss them like crazy.

All our friends thought we were probably kind of releaved that it was finally over. They thought now we could take short holidays or travel anytime and not have the worry over our cat. Well needless to say, they were wrong. When your family pet dies no matter the circumstances it is extremely painful.

That is why you should openly grieve for the loss of your pet. Admit how very sad and depressed you are feeling. If you need help with the loss of your pet your should seek it out. We have tremendous resources today that can help us in our time of grief.

I know this is a old and standard cliche', but in most cases it is very true

"time does heal" our pain and loss.

I find whenever we have family get togethers, like recently over the holidays, more times then not, the conversations always end up with discussions over the family pets that we had the good fortune of having over the years.

And it would seem, the one constant in our conversations about our family pets is laughter and joy. It seems weather our pets are with us at the time or have passed on, the one guarantee about animals is they will make you laugh.
When they are still with us, they are an endless source of entertainment. Especially when we seem a little down or sad, they seem to have a sixth sense about it and start doing some crazy thing that will make us laugh.

When they have passed, and we start reminiscing about the different family pets that we have had over the years it always brings laughter and some tears.
But that is another thing our pets do for us, they have the ability to bring families together, because it is always one subject everyone can agree upon. We all loved our pets and still miss them.
